The jazz organ moves out
Organist Jeff Palmer presents ten densely challenging compositions that
attempt to fix a location for jazz organ somewhere beyond the last
sighting of Larry Young. Palmer uses the Hammond B-3 as the mothership
that both propels and anchors a trio of sidemen known for their own
explorations into the avant garde (guitarist John Abercrombie,
saxophonist Arthur Blythe and drummer Rashied Ali). This is as much a
forum for Blythe as it is for Palmer, so if you're interested in the
possibilities of vigorous and challenging post-chicken-shack
organ/saxophone ensembles, pick this up and enjoy. Just don't expect to
finish it at one sitting. -- Jason Staczek
